“SINING AT PAKIKIBAKA SA HULING SONA NI GLORIA”

People were gathered at People’s Park in Baguio City to watch the live SONA of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. The heavy rain is not a hindrance for the viewers but the speech of PGMA seems to reflect different comments and reactions.

After the GMA’s SONA public viewing, the people had a march rally to show continuous solidarity as they shout, “ANG TAO, ANG BAYAN, TULOY-TULOY ANG LABAN!” This is also to show strong disagreement of Cha-cha and Con-Ass. “CHA-CHA NI GLORIA, AYAW NG MASA!”

I attended the activity as a student and as a citizen of this country. This is for me to understand the two sides of the world, to seek for truth, and to assess what can I do as a student or as a youth to address these societal problems if our leaders or PGMA can’t address it.

Speakers representing different progressive organizations expressed their critique of GMA’s SONA.

“I’m not sure if GMA belongs to this planet,” said Windell Bolinget, Secretary-General of Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA). He wonders the statements of GMA because accordingly, everything she says can’t be seen or felt in our country, that’s why he asks the source of the date she reported to the public.

I strongly agree with what Bolinget said. Reality comes from the actual situation in our country and it is based through the experiences of the people. A powerful individual with high position can’t just give a positive conclusion and can’t hide this reality because the truth still comes from the people with such experience.

One of the OFW’s from Hongkong shared their hardships to the public. She added their contribution to the Philippine economy but the fact remains they still suffer. The government collects tax from their remittance. “We planned not to remit because three days of not remitting will surely fail GMA’s economy,” said Jocelyn.

Furthermore, Chei Galvez, spokesperson of Tongtongan ti Umili said, “SONA must not contain statistics to steal glory rather this must serve as a reflection of the truth and reality in our country.

She stated;
“SA HULING SONA NI GLORIA, MAGPAPATULOY AND DAGUNDONG NG PROTESTA,
MAGPAPATULOY ANG PAGKILOS NG MAMAMAYAN!”

A REMINDER ON SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

I thank God for reminding my social responsibility

Yes! I have to admit that I’m not a mere student, or a mere daughter or citizen

I’m carrying responsibilities for the masses

I’m not studying for self interest only, rather this is one step for me to fulfill my mission to the people…..to the VOICELESS PEOPLE
